Marvel unveiled a new Avengers: Doomsday preview during Game 1 of the World Series on Friday 23 October, using a Fantastic Four baseball scene to introduce the crossover to the broadcast audience. Major League Baseball published the promotional spot, while TheWrap and ComicBook separately reported on the footage. Its release came in the early hours of Saturday for viewers in the UK.
The preview arrives ahead of the film’s planned 18 December cinema release. Disney’s UK listing confirms that date for British audiences, while MLB’s US announcement gives the same date. The film itself is still to come: the material released this weekend is a promotional look at selected scenes, rather than a screening or a verdict on the finished movie.
A first pitch with an elastic arm
The baseball connection is built into the footage. Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards, also known as Mister Fantastic, takes the mound for a ceremonial first pitch at Ebbets Field, using his stretching ability. MLB identifies the setting as the Fantastic Four’s world, previously introduced in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and notes Richards’ Brooklyn Dodgers cap.
The World Series version cuts real baseball players into the promotion. MLB names Freddie Freeman, Randy Arozarena, Jacob Misiorowski, Bryce Harper and Junior Caminero among those taking part. Their appearances are part of the specially assembled promotional piece; they should not be taken as confirmation that those players have roles in the theatrical film. The distinction matters because the spot deliberately mixes movie imagery with material made for the baseball audience.
Returning heroes get new moments
ComicBook’s account highlights an exchange between Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers involving Rogers’ ability to wield Mjölnir. It also identifies a moment with Ant-Man that reinforces Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson as Captain America. The preview brings these familiar characters into the same campaign without supplying a full explanation of how their stories connect.
TheWrap also notes glimpses of Letitia Wright’s Black Panther and Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. Downey’s presence is part of the film’s central confrontation, rather than an announcement that he is returning as Tony Stark. Disney’s synopsis describes heroes from three universes being brought into conflict with an existential threat, and confirms Anthony and Joe Russo as directors.
The material provides fresh character interactions, but it does not settle the film’s larger plot questions. ComicBook distinguishes the World Series presentation from a full trailer: the promotion was advertised as a preview or special look. That narrower description is useful for viewers deciding whether to watch it, particularly anyone trying to avoid new footage before December.
A preview, with more still undisclosed
TheWrap collected contrasting individual reactions online. Some viewers wanted a larger amount of new material after the build-up; others welcomed a campaign that left more unseen. Those selected comments show a disagreement about the promotion, not a representative survey of audience enthusiasm or evidence about the film’s prospects at the box office.
For cinema audiences on either side of the Atlantic, the concrete update is the arrival of this baseball-themed footage and the continuing 18 December release plan. The spot offers another look at the Fantastic Four and returning Avengers while leaving their wider collision largely unexplained. It does not confirm the circulating claims about when another full trailer might arrive.
